Cutting Nevada's Budget Deficit
Today, it is being reported that the Governor will call for a special session of the Legislature to solve Nevada's budget deficit when he gives his state of the state address on February 8th. The budget deficit released by the Economic Forum on Friday is obviously troubling news for all Nevadans. We must all band together to find solutions that will take Nevada on a path to recovery. Yesterday, I spoke to the Carson City Republican Women's Club. I appreciated the opportunity to speak to the attendees about how we balance the budget without raising taxes, mass layoffs or deficit spending. We talked about an overreliance by states on federal funding (I believe we must look at the strings attached, and if there are too many strings, say no to the funds) and I restated my opposition to a corporate income tax (as Governor, I will not support a corporate income tax). My Condolences
This morning, I was devastated to learn that two brave federal court officers have been harmed in the line of duty at the Las Vegas Federal Courthouse. One individual has lost a life and the other has been seriously injured. As we return to work at the start of a New Year, I ask you to take a moment and pray for these officers and their families.
